Tips for Autograph Collecting
            and updated address information
This section of the newsletter will deal with different tips on how to get a successful autograph request from the player that you want.  Enjoy!
I’ve been sending cards through the mail to former players years now with great success.  The following tips may help you obtain that autograph you’ve been wanting.

A. I find that a handwritten letter seems to get a better response than a typed or mass produced letter. I can’t count the number of letters I’ve received back telling me thanks for the interest or just to say hello.

B. Send along an extra card if possible for them to keep.  Remember that some former players have children or grandchildren and they may not have something to give them.  In most cases I’ve received a “Thank You” for this gesture or I get back the extra card signed as well.

C. Don’t just write, “sign my card please”.  Be a little more personal.  I have found that asking them to tell me a favorite memory about their UK career results in great letters and some funny stories as well, especially with the older players.

D. Never forget the self-addressed stamped envelope.  Don’t expect the player to pay for the postage.  These guys receive a lot of mail and autograph requests and that could get expensive for them.

E. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about their career or a particular event.  You’ll be surprised what kind of response you may get back.

F. Never send too many cards, this makes it appear that you may be selling the extras.  If you send numerous cards be sure to let them know they can have some or explain why you want so many.
